  • Universal Basic Income

Disclaimer: I'm not promoting a Universal basic income, so don't shoot the messenger... still.

This is a topic that will surely trigger those with "Socialism" tourettes to start barking SOCIALISM like a Rottweiler barks at mailman. I think times are changing fast and the world needs to have this discussion on what do we do when there are not enough jobs.

As we automate our economy, the chances of there being no jobs for millions of people is very high in the next generation or so. Countries are already looking for a solution. One solution is called a "Guaranteed" or "Universal income." This is where everyone gets a basic salary whether you are working or not. This is a popular idea in Silicon Valley, but most people have not heard of it yet.

I don't know if its practical. I do know that millions of people will not have access to employment soon but I don't know what the solution might be. This is one being kicked around ... so again don't shoot the messenger.

I'd like to see Universal Basic Income. I'd like to win the f***ing lottery. I think this has a snowballs chance in hell.

Seems to me, if you really want to hurt the middle class, this is how you would do it.

Interesting that many examples of better solutions to "injustices" are countries that have a fraction of the population of the U.S. They have strict immigration laws, somewhat of a homogeneous culture as compared to the United States.

That's it, you said it, end of discussion.

Just imagine if all the taxes produced by the majority white working class went to the majority white people.

Instead we enslave ourselves and take away from our children's future to support and feed the darker races.

This is a unique challenge and I don't think any potential solutions should necessarily be eliminated because socialism. That said any discussion of a basic income should include a discussion about immigration IMHO. Here is an interesting blog post about it:

I'm not sure how to prepare my kids for the automation of everything. I spend a lot of time thinking about this topic. I think plumbing will still be a safe career for a while - I'm not sure about other careers.

I think that sick people in Ankh-Morpork generally go to a vet. It's generally a better bet. There's more pressure on a vet to get it right. People say "it was god's will" when granny dies, but they get angry when they lose a cow. -Terry Pratchett

National socialism has never been tried.

We fought the Nazi's so the juice could own all our banks, media, education system, immigration and foreign policies.

Don't worry about those jobs...they have a plan for you.

So then what's the incentive of anyone to work?
This is as ignorant as ignorant can be, create more welfare by burdening the working class even more

This is what I call "suicidal altruism". No other race on earth suffers from this mental illness like the white race.

The issue is that incentive won't matter because people won't be able to work. There just won't be enough jobs if software and robots can do nearly everything. Possibly tax the robots and software somehow to pay for the universal basic income? Trump's plan to put Americans to work rebuilding infrastructure also seems like a good idea. I'm not sure what the answer is but I know it isn't to import more people who are illiterate and/or religious fanatics.

i agree but it's strange how those same infrastructure jobs were negatively viewed a few years ago.

Agreed. And it's not a long term solution. What happens when these GOVERNMENT FUNDED project go away? Will those folks have relevant skills and the ability to find work?

I think education is the answer...and we are WAY WAY behind on that front. If you have a kid right now its more important than ever that you help them choose a relevant career path that has growth and a future. Competition is global now...no more liberal arts BS degrees...get something usable and valuable in the real world.
