Mattito's Tex Mex in Frisco Square

I agree with the majority. We went once and I will never go back again. The cheese was definitely processed. The chicken on my salad tasted like that precooked stuff (tyson) stuff in the grocery store and slimy. My dh's fajitas didn't come with shredded cheese so we had to purchase some shredded velveta for $2.50. Service was terrible and I think we were 1 of 4 families there.

I really like Cantino Laredo and Mi Cucina, but in my opinion the best Mexican food in this part of the world (the Dallas area...not ALL of Texas ) is Tupy's. We've been customers of theirs for over 41 years now. When we lived in North Dallas as newlyweds we would go to their location on Northwest Highway. Over the years, every visit we had to Dallas included the absolutely required visit to their place on Inwood (that location is still operating...its where Inwood sort of runs into the DNT).

Now that they've opened up in Frisco, we go there regularly...and are never disappointed.

When my brother and his family came to visit us from New Jersey, we took them to Tupy's. A few weeks after that he phoned me...told me he was in a Mexican restaurant near his home in New Jersey, and could I talk to the owner of the place he was at, to describe those Tupy Tacos...he loved them so much!!

Love Tupinamba in Dallas, I work about ten minutes from there and go about once a month! Doesn't seem like many people know about it, but it's been there forever. Myhusband was so glad when they opened Tupy's in Frisco so we could have date night dinner there without the drive to Dallas.

Went to Mattitos during the holidays and the food was all right, service was good that night. Went back on a night they had their magician there and the kids enjoyed the entertainment but we didn't enjoy the complete lack of waitstaff and service. With a large family and a tight budget, we're really selective about dining out. It won't be at Mattitos anytime soon.

I had been eating at Mattito's ever since they opened about once a week and with my family. I especially liked the chile relleno. We went one night. and the relleno looked a little strange. I knew the manager well as I had been a very good customer. I asked him about the relleno, and he said we don't roll and fill them like we used to. We split a chile, lay the meat out on top of it and put it under the warmer so they will be ready .Of course, the chile was shriveled and dry from sitting under the warmer. That was the last relleno I ordered there and have not been back much since. When I want a relleno, I want a relleno rolled and filled as it should be, especially for the price they were charging. For want of saving a few minutes preparation time, they lost a very good customer.

We havent been in a while- again a service issue. The drinks were good from what I remember. I really like Tupys because of the Tupy taco. And Salsa's at Main and Teel is very good. I was surprised I enjoy it so much.

Try Chuy's on the east side of the DNT. I like chili rellenos too, and theirs is particularly good.

Yes, Nelson, I love the rellenos at Chuy's. I absolutely think they put something physically addictive in the breading!!!!!!!

Yeah - i was excited about that place. I like authentic Mex...not so much Tex-mex. (Everyone knows good mex food comes from dives....Mariannas is almost to nice to qualify!)
Pid extra for guac. on the rolled tacos....pretty much nonexistent. The rolled tacos taste surprisingly like the frozen ones I get from Wal-mart. Not impressed.

You might want to give them one more try....went there for lunch yesterday and:

New Assistant Manager

New General Manager

6 people from the Kitchen let go

3+ people from the wait staff / bar tenders let go or left after their friends were let go.

Food on the lunch menu was very good....the management / owner's appear to understand that this location was seriously underperforming and are committed to make radical changes. If something is not on the menu ask for it...they want to be very accomodating. If there is something wrong with your food, tell them...they will correct it.

Staff was extremely friendly, yet not overbearing.

It appears that they are addressing the quote: "I can only fix something if I know that it is broken!"

Good to hear. Would hate to see another business in the square go under.
