Worst National Anthem Performance Ever ... And it happened in Frisco!!,

That was bad....but not the worst performance and probably not even in the top five worst performances of the national anthem. I think the issue is that not only was it bad...but she drug the darn song out so long...that it made the terrible nature of her performance that much more terrible.

And this isn't all on the parents. What about the event organizers/FC Dallas? You can't just say "Hey, let me sing the national anthem"...and then they let you walk out on the field. You actually have to try out, don't you? I guess it's possible that she can actually sing fairly well for an 11 year old and must have passed through the auditions in good form. Then, once they found out it would be on national TV, the parents changed up the performance to try and maker her sound like a pop star....and it failed miserably.

ETA: I just happened to realize while watching this more closely, something VERY interesting.

Note that DIRK NOWITZKI, a German Citizen, has his hand over his heart during the anthem! (I've seen reports that Dirk is thinking about becoming a US citizen though)

She will probably recover from this, and have a career in singing, but holy cow that was horrible! Kudos to the crowd for not booing her. I wish event organizers would screen singers better. I'm tired of people butchering this song with a captive audience.

I hate it when a singer thinks that they have to add all the vocal gymnastics to the Star Spangled Banner. Good grief! it's our National Anthem. Show it some respect.

Give the kid a break. She's only 11 years old. She'd probably been just fine - and we would've never heard of her, if she hadn't tried to "modernize" it. You can blame that on her parents or whoever is her singing coach.

I have no expectations of the quality of a musical performance from an 11 year-old. There is no standard - they're in training.

Give the poor kid a break - at least for being brave enough to get up in front of that many people (and on TV) to sing. (Still probably sings much better than most of us posters in this thread.)

This is simply the natural result of every singer who has ever thought they needed to put their own vocal spin on the national anthem. A stranger on the street will probably do better than most of these folks by simply being faithful to the original cadence.

It's the national anthem. It's not your damn demo tape.

I would just about bet that one of her parents is her voice coach. There's no way a professional would direct her to sing that way.

I feel bad for her. She is going to get some teasing from her friends.

Her parents need to realize they are to blame for this horrific performance. The people in the crowd were literally cringing while it was going on.
