PLANO TX- March 5, 2010   Plano Councilman Pat Miner, Senior Planner for the City of Plano, Stephen Sims, and Frisco Mayor Maher Maso joined members of Equality Texas and Collin County Gay & Lesbian Alliance at a mixer to encourage participation in the 2010 Census.

Guest Speaker, Elizabeth Lopez Lyon, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Partnership Specialist for the Dallas Regional Census Center discussed the Census’ outreach efforts to the LGBT community and historic changes in the way same-sex couples will be counted. The 2010 Census will be the first to report counts of both same-sex partners and same-sex spouses. Transgender individuals will be counted as the sex they identify. Equality Texas is holding similar events in Houston and Austin.

Equality Texas and CCGLA are Official partners of the 2010 Census. Both organizations are spreading the word about the importance of understanding how the 2010 Census will count LGBT individuals.  More information on the 2010 Census, including FAQ’s, resource links, and a pledge to be counted, are available at www.EqualityTexas.org.
