Remember Our Military Heroes

Monday is Memorial Day, a national holiday to honor our fallen military heroes. Also, veterans are authorized to wear their ribbons twice a year, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Vets, wear your ribbons. Here are a few scheduled remembrance events around the county:

Monday, May 28:
9 a.m. – Frisco Commons, sponsored by the City of Frisco, Frisco Garden Club and VFW Post 8273, 8000 McKinney road, Frisco. Features music from the Frisco Chorale and the Frisco Community Band; speaker: U.S. Air Force Reserve Chaplain Maj. Amy Hunt of Frisco.

1 p.m. -- Ridgeview Memorial Park, sponsored by VFW Post 2150 and Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow; Allen-McKinney (east side of Hwy 75 and Ridgeview Rd); Keynote speaker: Bill Dvorak, U.S. Navy pilot

4 p.m. – Allen Veteran’s Memorial, sponsored by the Allen Veterans Memorial committee and VFW Post 2195, where families remove the covering and read the inscription on new memorial bricks, then the VFW will  bury the ashes of flags the VFW has retired since Veteran's Day; 1201 E. Bethany Dr., Allen (near Bethany Dr. and Allen Heights Dr. at edge of Bethany Lakes Park).

7 p.m. -- Plano Veterans Memorial Park, sponsored by the City of Plano, Blue Star Mothers Lone Star Chapter 6, American Legion Post 321, and VFW Post 4380. 2101 Bay Hill Drive , Plano (south of Spring Creek Pkwy and Custer Rd.)

Please note that all county government offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day.
