In a hilarious adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Frisco Area Children’s Theater will present “Rapunzel” in five shows over two weekends.

Rene Shwartzbuckle is cuckoo for a turnip-like vegetable called rapunzel. When she spots a mouth-watering patch of the plant in the Witch’s garden, she sends her husband Walt out to "borrow" some. The Witch terrorizes Walt into promising his firstborn child in exchange for freedom. Years later, when Rapunzel turns 18, the Witch and her henchmen, the Glumpwarts, show up and whisk the young maiden away to a tower in the forest. From here, a boisterously entertaining rescue attempt begins. Can Prince Llewellyn persevere over the powers of evil? Filled with plenty of action hysterical characters such as the sages Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme, this show gives a new twist to an old story and a gentle message about the nature of beauty.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18, 19, 25 and 26, and also at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Frisco Black Box Theater, 8004 N. Dallas Parkway.in Frisco. General admission tickets are $10 or $5 for children and seniors. Call 972-425-8556 or visit www.friscoacts.com.
