FRISCO, TEXASFEBRUARY 22, 2010Music Conservatory of Texas invites future movie, TV and Broadway stars to take the stage in their new theatre class, KidStage. MCOT has offered a variety of individual and group music lessons for students of all ages for the last 10 years, and the addition of KidStage will allow current and new students the opportunity to expand their artistic skills.

“Families who are interested in music education would also be interested in exposing their children to theatre arts,” states MCOT Executive Director Chris Duncan. “This is a fun and convenient opportunity for kids to get involved with theatre on the MCOT campus.”

This after-school drama program is directed by local theatre professionals and allows students to work together in teams while learning the basics of theatre. Kids have the opportunity to become a leading actor, a director, lighting or sound technicians, prop technicians and stage designers.

While at Music Conservatory of Texas, future thespians have three opportunities to explore the world of theatre during three sessions, Session A: Kids Komedy Show, Session B: Mixed Up Fairy Tales and Spring Break Camp: Schoolhouse Rock. Session A has already begun, but students are still invited to join the class.

Kids Komedy Show will meet each Thursday starting February 11 through April 8, excluding March 19, and will teach kids age 6 through 10 the basics of comedy and improvising while preparing their own commercials that they will share with friends and family on the last day of class.

Mixed Up Fairy Tales will meet each Thursday starting April 15 through June 3 and  will allow kids age 6 to 10 to take part in three non-traditional fairy tale stories leading up to a final performance for their friends and families.

Music Conservatory of Texas will also offer a Kidstage Spring Break Camp March 15-19 and allow kids age 7 to 12 to take part in Schoolhouse Rock, a fun musical revue based on the Emmy-award-wianning educational TV show.

Session A and B cost $90.00 and the Spring Break camp costs $125.00 a child. Class sizes are limited. For more information or to register, visit www.kidstage.net and www.mcot.com or call (972) 762.9955.

ABOUT MUSIC CONSERVATORY OF TEXAS:  Not only skilled in classical music training, Music Conservatory of Texas embraced the “ROCK SCHOOL” concept before it was cool.  Since 2005 the DayRockerZ summer one-week Rock Camps for 10-16 year olds are such a success that it has been integrated into the year long program, and added weekly Rock School, Jazz School and Classical School as well. This year the NEW Musical Arts Schoolhouse Pre-School with an arts emphasis curriculum has been added.  Music programs include groups, private lessons, all levels and ages including adults in guitar disciplines (acoustic, electric, classical and Bass), voice, violin, banjo, mandolin, flute, percussion disciplines (drums, mallets) and more. Music is fun but even more importantly is an exceptional tool to build discipline, team work, self-esteem and is proven to enhance student’s test scores in math.   www.mcot.com
