Centennial High School Powerlifter Wins State Title

Ricky Lopez of Centennial High School won gold at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) Division 1 state meet held on March 25 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene. Competing in the 114-pound class, Lopez squatted 375 lbs., bench pressed 230 lbs. and deadlifted 430 lbs. for a total 1035 lbs.

Nate Lunsford of Wakeland High School also brought home a medal, taking 3rd place in the 123-pound class with a total of 1090 lbs. Also competing in the meet for FISD were George Kennard of Wakeland who finished 7th in the 165-pound class with a total of 1330 lbs. and Justin Gipson of Reedy High School who finished 16th in the 165-pound class, lifting a total of 1225 lbs.

Frisco ISD sent five lifters to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) 5A state meet held on March 17 in Waco. Aubree Beard of Centennial took 5th place in the 198-pound class, lifting a total of 925 lbs. Teammate Olivia Helm finished 15th in the 132-pound class with a total of 650 lbs. Heritage High School also had two girls compete at the state meet. Nancy Yousef took 7th place in the 165-pound class with a total of 890 lbs. and Payton Davison finished 12th in the 114-pound class with a total of 615 lbs. Alex Slaughter of Independence High School finished 13th in the 114-pound class, lifting a total of 595 lbs.
