Dianna Bacon, graphic design and illustration teacher at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center, was recognized April 6 in Rochester, New York along with a former student at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Andrea Shaver, a former CTE student and 2013 graduate of Liberty High School, received the Outstanding Undergraduate Scholars Award, which honors the top one percent of RIT students.

Shaver is the president of student government at RIT. As a FISD student, she participated in Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), a partnership with the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, and was the first CTE graphic design student to intern with the Texas Legends.

As part of receiving the award, Shaver was asked to chose one former educator who had a profound influence on her education or career, and who played a special role in her life. Shaver chose Bacon for her contributions, and RIT proudly covered expenses for Bacon to travel to the official recognition dinner and program.

Bacon was recently featured in an article in the Frisco Enterprise newspaper for her selection.
