The fifth grade class at Shawnee Trail Elementary School was treated to a special guest on Friday, March 17, as Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford came to the campus as a part of the NFL’s Play 60 and Fuel Up to Play 60 programs.

The in-school nutrition and physical activity initiative, launched by the National Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, is designed to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives.

Crawford’s appearance was a reward for the school for its completion and effort related to the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. Other FISD schools have received special prizes and appearances as well as part of a year-long incentive program offered through a partnership between Frisco ISD, the Cowboys and local dairy council Dairy MAX.

Crawford spoke briefly to Shawnee Trail students about the importance of physical fitness and healthy eating habits. He explained how hard work and good nutrition have led to his success as a professional athlete.

Crawford then joined the students as they broke into groups and rotated through four activities that tested their physical fitness and nutrition knowledge.

“Today means a lot to me to be here with these kids,” Crawford said. “I’m passionate about helping kids learn how to eat well and work hard at an early age. It’s awesome to see these kids out here getting excited about being healthy.”
