FISD Athletes Qualify For State Golf and Tennis Tournaments

Frisco ISD golf and tennis athletes turned in outstanding performances at their respective regional tournaments and have qualified for state.

In golf, the Liberty High School girls and the Wakeland High School girls finished first and second, respectively, in the team standings at the 5A regional tournament and are now headed to the 5A girls’ state tournament to be held May 15-16 at the Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop. Qualifying for the girls’ 5A state tournament as an individual was Darby Deans of Liberty. Olivia Mitchell of Lebanon Trail High School finished second at regionals and will now compete at the 4A girls’ state golf tournament on May 15-16 at the Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls. Henry Frizzell of Centennial High School finished third in the region and will compete as an individual at the boys’ 5A state golf

In tennis, FISD had five players advance to state from their respective regional tournaments. Navya Chunduru of Lebanon Trail will compete at state in the girls’ 4A singles division. Quinn Lapoint of Independence High School and Abhishek Dayal of Lone Star High School will play in the 5A boys’ singles division. And Katie Strand and Trinity Vivona of Independence will compete in the 5A girls’ doubles division. The state tennis tournament will be held May 18-19 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.
